Off to Paris
My bags are packed, my critique letters are printed, and—luckily—I found my passport.
I’m going to Paris.
Attending a writing workshop in Paris is a dream I never thought I’d live out. But I stumbled across the application back in January, my husband cheered me on, and here we are. He took the week off to stay home with the kids so I could go, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
I’m really looking forward to wandering the streets of the Latin Quarter, lingering over lattes and French pastries at neighborhood cafés, and most of all, meeting the other writers whose chapters I’ve spent the past few weeks reading. I can't wait to finally put faces to the stories.
It’s been wildly hot here in Northern Virginia, and Paris has been experiencing its own record-breaking heat wave. Thankfully, it looks like temperatures will ease a bit this week. I’m even packing my favorite sweater—just in case.
Along with it are my journal, a few comfortable travel favorites, and a suitcase full of hope for this novel.
I've been working on this story for more years than I'd care to admit. I’ve changed the plot, added and axed characters, written and rewritten chapters so many times... this week, I’m looking forward to seeing it through ten fresh pairs of eyes and discovering what comes next.
I’ll be gathering plenty of field notes along the way, and I can’t wait to share them with you when I return.
