July's Author Spotlight arrives later this month, but in the meantime, I was looking at my daughter yesterday afternoon and had to write a little bonus 100-word story of my own.
Hope you enjoy.
July
By July, your hair turns the color of wheat soaked in morning light. You come running in from our little garden barefoot and breathless, smelling of earth, sweat, and…something else. Dirt clings to your palms. Lemonade rolls down your chin. Ah, you’ve covered your arms in citronella candle wax again, and your laugh fills the kitchen like a song.
July looks good on you—golden shoulders, sticky fingers, sun-bright smile—and I think this is how my love for you grows: in the sweetness of ordinary days.
Even when you think you’re too grown for it.

Rita, such great memories! All of you were very sweet to cheer me on. I remember mixing animals in my drawings. So odd, but so entertaining 😆
I love this! A moms sweet love for her daughter.
A delightful short! I remember you having to write short stories in school when you were very young! Yours were so cute. You sometimes drew a picture at the end. I remember you sold one to Nancy for 25 cents…….
